Abstract

Throughout history, humans have engaged in a range of ritual practices for a variety of purposes. The structure of rituals is characterized by a series of stages, each of which contributes to the overall organization of the ritual. Transitional rituals, crisis rituals and sacrifice, which constitute an integral part of calendrical rituals, represent a further category of these practices. Despite the absence of their original structure and intent, the vestiges of rituals that have been conducted since antiquity persist in various manifestations in the present era. The practice of sacrifice also endures in numerous contemporary rituals. This study will initially examine the concept of sacrifice within the context of Turkish culture, delineating the characteristics and nuances of sacrifice. It will then investigate the evolution and continuity of bloodless sacrifice practices among Turks, with a particular focus on the practices observed in Karaman province.
