Names of Things Named in Khrazim Turkish Works and the Etymology of These Names

Abstract

From past to present, Turkish language has spread to different regions due to migration, war, etc. in the historical process  and has  shown a  different development line. One of the areas where Turkish spread is the Khwarezm region. Khwarezm Turkish, which emerged in this region in the 13th century, continued its existence until the 15th century. The most characteristic feature of Khwarezm Turkish is that it   has     a     mixed     language        structure          due       to      the coexistence of different ethnic elements in the region and shows a transitional language feature. The mixed language structure of this period also enriched the vocabulary     of      Khwarezm  Turkish.  Within this vocabulary, names of objects also have an important place. In this study, it is aimed to include the names of objects and their etymology in the works of Khwarezm Turkish. The originality of the study is that although studies have been carried out on the names of objects in different periods of Turkish language, Khwarezm Turkish has not been analyzed in this aspect. In the study, by using the scanning method, the vocabulary in the works of that period was first recorded and then subjected to classification. The works of the period such as Muqaddimet al Edep, Kısasu'l-Anbiya, Mu'înü'l- Mûrîd, Husrev ü Şîrîn, Nehcü'l-Ferâdis, Sirâcü'l- Kulüp were analyzed and the names of objects in the index of the works were scanned. In the etymology of the terms related to the item names, the dictionaries of the researchers Sır Gerard Clauson, Tuncer Gülensoy and Hasan Eren were used. The identified terms were classified according to their functions. The words are etymologically defined as Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Greek and Mongolian. Thus, a look into the social and economic       life      of                           the      Khwarezm      period (13-15th century) will be opened through the names of objects.
