Language is the most fundamental tool that enables communication between people from the past to the present, allowing them to express their emotions and thoughts. There are elements that complement, enrich, develop the language and form its identity. One of these elements is the idioms, which are the subject of our study. Idioms are phrase patterns that demonstrate a society's power of expression, enabling individuals to express themselves concisely, and conveying their emotions in a simple and understandable way. Idioms are fixed expressions within phrases, consisting of at least two words. In this study, idioms will be identified by scanning the novel Esir Şehrin İnsanları, which is the first work of Kemal Tahir's Esir Şehir Trilogy. In the study, idioms have been examined under two main headings based on the data obtained from the novel: idioms that are structurally part of compound verb phrases and other idioms outside of the compound verb structure. Approximately 167 idioms have been identified and classified under these main headings. The explanations of the identified idioms have been based on the Turkish Language Association (TDK).
