Abstract
The number of people learning and teaching Turkish as a foreign language is increasing. Foreign students in Turkey are successful in their speaking and listening skills while learning Turkish. They encounter some problems in writing skills.
In foreign language teaching, writing skill is seen as the last link in the chain among other skills. It is not enough for a person to speak; he must also express himself in writing. Despite the importance of writing in language teaching, it can be said that the low rate of writing in schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education is due to alphabet differences, lack of assistance to students with learning difficulties and language problems. In this case, students' motivation can be increased with writing exercises at the beginning of the teaching process, without being presented as a laborious task. This research was prepared to determine the cause of the mistakes made in the written expressions of 332 foreign students studying in secondary schools (5, 6, 7, 8) affiliated with the Ministry of Education in the central Karatay district of Konya in the 2019-2020 academic year and to offer solution suggestions. Within the scope of this research, it was determined that foreign students studying in schools made lexical-semantic, morphosyntactic, spelling, sound and punctuation errors in their written Turkish expressions.
