CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE TURKISH DICTIONARY FROM THE STORIES OF AHMET HAMDİ TANPINAR (IDIOMS IN COMPOUND VERN FORMATION)

Abstract

As a living being languageboth protects its existing structure dating back thousands of years and continouslyimproves itself and changes. Language’s all these accummulations creates vocabulary. The main element which shows the richness of a language is vocabulary. Turkish language that being dates back centuries is among the widest vocabulary. The authors and poets play o very important role to enrich the vocabulary of Turkish idioms which are the most important representatives of cultural acummulation. Idioms can be seen in very different structures in this study only making compound verbs will be mentioned.

In this study the idioms with compound verbs are identified which are gained with the story book of Abdullah Efendi’nin Rüyaları by Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar. In the story book Abdullah Efendi’nin Rüyaları, Geçmiş Zaman Elbiseleri, Bir Yol, Erzurumlu Tahsin, Evin Sahibi 30 compound idioms are examined. In the study documentary scanning method is used. The purpose of this study is tacquire these idioms to Turkish language and to add them to Turkish Dictionary (2023) and thus widen their usage.
