Abstract

Language has a holistic structure. In order to provide this holistic structure, teaching in language teaching is carried out through four basic abilities. Reading comprehension is one of the four basic language skills in language teaching. Since listening and reading constitute the first source of new knowledge, reading-comprehension forms the basis of learning together with listening-comprehension. For this reason, the texts taught in this field are important. Various studies have been carried out to measure the readability of texts in Turkish. Ateshman and Chetinkaya’s readability formulas are an example of these. In these formulas, the average number of words in the sentence and the average syllable length in the word are used. In this study, the texts in Ak Bashat Turkish A1-A2 book were examined according to these formulas and the effect of phonemes on reading was emphasized. According to Ateshman’s readability formula, the readability of A1 texts is 88 and the readability of A2 text size 78. According to Chetinkaya’s readability formula, the readability of A1 texts is 50 and the readability of A2 texts is 46. In addition, a conclusion was reached on the usability of these formulas in texts in Turkish teaching. Thus, it will be possible to look at the studies on the readability of the texts in teaching Turkish as a foreign language from a different perspective.
